Why participate in this clinical research study?

Clinical studies are the fastest and safest way to find the effectiveness of pain medications that work and are only possible with the help of participants like you. Compensation varies by study, time involved, and whether you complete all visits and procedures in the study. Every volunteer study at JBR Clinical Research is approved and monitored by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) to make sure the risks are as low as possible and are worth any potential benefits to the volunteer.

What to expect:

For this study we are evaluating the safety and tolerability of an investigational medication (Bupivacaine and Meloxicam extended-release solution) given after total shoulder replacement to help with pain after surgery.

Patients that qualify for the study, will receive no cost total shoulder replacement surgery by our board-certified surgeon in our state-of-the-art facility, along with no cost investigational pain relief medication, study related care, and be compensated up to $720 for their time and travel.

Participation in this study will involve a screening visit, procedure date that includes a 3-night 4-day stay, and up to 4 follow up visits to the facility.

Participants stay in a private room at our facility and receive complimentary meals during the stay.

FAQs

What is Total Shoulder Arthroplasty (Replacement)?

Total shoulder replacement, also known as total shoulder arthroplasty, is the removal of damaged areas of bone and replaces them with parts made of metal and plastic (implants) to reduce pain and restore range of rotation and mobility.

What are the common reasons to have shoulder replacement surgery?

The most common reasons for a shoulder replacement surgery are osteoarthritis, rotator cuff tear arthropathy, fractures, avascular necrosis or rheumatoid arthritis. The procedure is meant to relieve your pain, improve your strength, increase your range of motion, and enable you to use your shoulder and arm.

When is a total shoulder replacement surgery necessary?

If all other options have been exhausted to alleviate pain in your shoulder, your doctor may suggest total shoulder replacement. This surgery may be an effective option to relieve pain caused by rotator cuff tears, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis.
