Diabetes Awareness Month, Quietly Celebrating
October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it seems like
the whole country turned pink! From store marquees to the NFL, everyone was touting pink, talking about awareness prevention, fund raising, etc.
But now here it is National Diabetes Awareness month and what have you heard about it? Not much. For some reason diabetes isn’t as glamours as breast cancer. You won’t be hearing people talking about it. You won’t be seeing colors changed on uniforms, logo changes or national commercials about gifts and attire you can purchase to support diabetes research.
But why not, over 26 million people in the U.S. diabetes, 1 in 400 children have diabetes. Shouldn’t we be making a big fuss, having runs and fund raisers for diabetes.
I challenge everyone who has diabetes or knows someone with diabetes to wear a ribbon, post about it, talk about it. Let’s make November all about diabetes and see if we can’t make that 26 million go down to nothing! Find a cure for diabetes!
