Todd Bertoch, MD

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Todd Bertoch, M.D. is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry from California State University at Fullerton and received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. After an internship in Internal Medicine, he completed his Anesthesiology residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, where he was Chief Resident and received the Arthur B. Tarrow Outstanding Resident Award. He is a member of the esteemed Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Bertoch served as an anesthesiologist in the United States Air Force until 2006 where he gained extensive experience in both trauma care and pain management. He is a recipient of the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal.

After completing his military service, Dr. Bertoch served for 11 years as the managing partner of Prescott Anesthesia in Prescott, Arizona where his practice included a focus on cardiovascular surgery, chronic pain management and addiction medicine. Since joining JBR Clinical research in 2017, he has served as Principal Investigator for over 100 clinical trials, defended development programs for sponsors before the FDA, been invited to present study results on behalf of clients at professional meetings, designed and authored numerous clinical trial protocols, and has helped author several industry-related articles and white papers.

Carol Minoughan

Director of Business Development

Carol joined CenExel JBR in 2007, after spending most of her career in Management and pharmacy. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, with a major in Marketing. She started at CenExel JBR on the clinical side of the business, overseeing more than 100+ Phase I-Phase IV trials as a Project Manager. Along with also serving as Managing Director of JBR from 2017-2018, she has been dedicated to bringing in new business as the Director of Business Development from 2016 to present. Her passion is bridging the world of BD with the world of clinical operations, ensuring all aspects of our trials are seamless from start to finish.

Patrick Brain, DDS

Oral Surgeon

Dr. Brain is Board-Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Utah Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Chalmers J. Lyons Academy.

Dr. Brain completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Utah. He attended Creighton University, graduating with a dental degree. After completing 4 years of dental school, he was accepted into the highly competitive post doctorate oral surgery residency program at the University of Michigan. While based in the University of Michigan Hospital, he spent considerable time rotating in medicine, ICUs, and trauma burn unit. One year was dedicated to training in anesthesia. He finished his residency training in 2004.

Over the past ten years, he has maintained a private practice focusing on the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He maintains a teaching position at the Veteran’s Hospital where he helps mentor and train dental residents while serving the nation’s veterans.

Bryan Christensen, DMD

Oral Surgeon

Dr. Christensen is Board-Certified and serves on-call for hospitals that receive trauma patients in the Salt Lake Valley, including Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Alta Views Hospital in Sandy, LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, and Riverton Hospital.

Dr. Christensen earned his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University in 2002. Then he attended the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and graduated with Honors.

Dr. Christensen completed his residency with the prestigious University of Oklahoma Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery program. As a resident, he received extensive training in all facets of oral surgery, including implant, orthognathic, and temporomandibular surgeries, as well as dentoalveolar, bone and soft tissue grafting, oral pathology, cleft palate reconstruction, and facial cosmetic surgery.

Stephen Cooper, DMD PhD

Analgesic Research Expert

Dr. Cooper is most well-known as the developer of the Dental Impaction Pain Model, one of the most widely used pain models in the world. He has published in peer reviewed journals over 100 clinical papers on a wide variety of analgesic drugs. His major areas of expertise are clinical trial design, analgesic drugs and development of consumer products.

Dr. Cooper’s doctoral education was at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. During his D.M.D. training, he became very interested in pharmacology, especially the area of pain control. While in his final year of dental school, he received an NIH/NIDR postdoctoral fellowship to study clinical pharmacology at Georgetown University, School of Medicine. In 1975, he received his Ph.D. from Georgetown and remained on their Medical faculty until 1978. He spent the next 17 years as a Professor and Associate Dean at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, University of Pennsylvania and Temple University.

Over this 17- year span, he received grant support from the NIH, private foundations and the pharmaceutical industry totaling over 15 million dollars. His research has focused on clinical pharmacology and pharmacokinetics in a variety of drug groups including analgesics, local anesthetics and intravenous sedation.

Ryan Ellsworth, DPM

Podiatric Surgeon

Dr. Ellsworth is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Dr. Ellsworth studied Biology at Brigham Young University, then was accepted to the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine, where he completed his studies to become a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Ellsworth completed an intensive three-year residency in foot and ankle surgery at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Ellsworth is the Cofounder of the Summit Foot and Ankle Clinic, where he specializes in reconstructive foot surgery, rear-foot surgery, and more.
