On February 1, 2025, CenExel Georgia’s Principal Investigator, Jessica McCoun, MD, was interviewed on CNN by Fredericka Whitfield about the FDA’s exciting new approved non-opioid drug, Journavx™. This new treatment for moderate to severe acute pain showed a “statistically significant superior reduction in pain” when compared to a placebo in two randomized trials of acute surgical pain, according to the FDA.

Journavx works by “reducing pain by targeting a pain-signaling pathway involving sodium channels in the peripheral nervous system, before pain signals reach the brain.” That’s different from opioids, which bind to receptors in the brain that receive nerve signals from the body.

CenExel supported the clinical trials involved in the development of Journavx at four of our locations across the United States.
