Being told that you need to have your wisdom teeth removed can seem like a real pain. Of course, you could be in real pain if you elect to ignore medical advice and decide not to have the wisdom teeth removal surgery. But what could happen if you don’t do it?

While the actual Salt Lake City wisdom teeth removal procedure is usually relatively straightforward, the consequences of not having it done can be irritating at best—dangerous at worst.

Below are a few complications that may occur if you forgo Salt Lake City wisdom teeth removal:

More teeth to brush, more teeth to decay
Even if your wisdom teeth are healthy and come in the way they are supposed to, they can still cause problems down the line. Because they sit so far back in your mouth, it is difficult to keep them clean and properly cared for. This could mean a more difficult wisdom teeth removal procedure in your future. At the very least, wisdom teeth should still be monitored for future problems if they appear to be healthy at present.

A big impact on your health
One common reason for needing Salt Lake City wisdom teeth removal is wisdom teeth impaction. When this happens, the teeth are stuck under your gum line with nowhere to go. Aside from being painful, they are more likely to get infected or have an abscess. Not only that, these impacted teeth can cause your other healthy teeth to suffer from decay and even resorption if you don’t have Salt Lake City wisdom teeth removal.

If this condition is left untreated, it can get worse. Impacted teeth can turn their orientation so that they are pointed parallel with your jaw line. This can put a great deal of pressure on your teeth, causing a great deal of pain.

In a worst case scenario, impacted wisdom teeth can actually reverse course and shift backward. This could make opening and closing your jaw difficult, which obviously can have a big effect on talking, eating and just leading a normal existence.

You could be crowded out
Many people who have small mouths or jaws simply don’t have room for four more teeth to come in. When those teeth do make an appearance, overcrowding can lead your teeth to shift in your mouth—and even overlap one another. Aside from being painful and unsightly, this can essentially undo any previous dental work you may have had done. This could mean all those expensive orthodontic treatments were all for naught.

While Salt Lake City wisdom teeth removal is not for everyone, it is not something to be taken lightly if your dentist or orthodontist recommends it. You should consider the long-term consequences before you decide against it.
