Who Get’s Bunions?
Bunions (hallux valgus) is one of the most common foot problems, a bump at the joint of the big toe and foot. The deformity becomes swollen, tender and depending on the severity may require corrective surgery.
Bunions occur in people of all ages and genders, however it is more likely to occur in women (due to the choice of shoes), the elderly and people with a family history of bunions.
Bunions occur in approximately 30% of women and 13% of men. They are found in 23% of adults ages 18 to 65 and in 35.7% of adults over the age of 65. Bunions are more likely to develop with advancing age. Bunions have been reported in children as young as 5 or 6 years of age. If bunions occur in young children the condition generally will get worse throughout childhood and adolescence and are highly linked to a family history of the condition.
If you have a bunion that needs to be removed you may be a candidate to participate in a clinical trial at JBR Clinical Research, visit our bunion clinical trial page to see if you may be a candidate.
